Quem Quem Treau

THE FISHING

Guests can fish more than twenty miles of the Collón Cura River, one of the most productive fishing rivers in Argentina. Floating is the preferred method to fish this river because of its size, and covering large portions of water is the norm. This is a big river where a normal full day drift will cover between 6 and 10 miles. There is approximately 25 miles of the Collon Cura that runs through the Quem Quem Treua Eastancia and it is very rare to see another drift boat on the river fishing the same section that you are. During a normal days drift, guests will fish and cover a wide variety of water, from slow deep pools and back eddies to fast moving shallow water channels and cuts.

Lodging at this ranch also gives exclusive access to the Quemquemtreu Creek. This small creek is fairly technical in nature and will on occasion produce some very large fish, given its small size. A lovely walk and wade stream, this body of water fishes best during the months of November, December, early January, The Quemquemtreu waters flow into Collón Cura, which is one of the most famous Patagonian Rivers, which arises from the confluence of the Aluminé and Chimehuín rivers. The water is cold and crystal-clear as it flows down these mountain rivers, which shelter guanacos, wild boar, deer and birds, and plentiful large trout.

Aside from the traditional hatches that occur on the river, there are two other significant food source occurrences that happen yearly on the Collon Cura. The first is the inch worm “hatch” where 1000’s of worms fall in to the river from the willow trees that line the banks of the river. The second is the minnow run that happens in mid-March and runs through April. When these two events happen and you are lucky enough to be on the river, it can change a good day in to a great day.

While this is principally a river fished while drifting, there are some absolutely superb wading opportunities found throughout the river. Gravel bars and braided channels offer a delightful mixed bag both slow and fast moving water.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT

The drift boats are sturdy inflatable’s that offer seating for two guests (front and back) along with the guide seated in the middle. These boats are rock solid and are very comfortable to fish from. Each guide has a modern 4 wheel drive pick-up truck for the numerous off road locations that guests will be fishing from.
