Big Horn River Lodge

THE FISHING

The Bighorn River’s reputation as a world class fishery speaks for itself. With the completion of Yellowtail Dam in 1967, the Bighorn has become a clear, cool tailwater hosting between 5000-7000 rainbow and brown trout per mile. The average trout caught on the Bighorn ranges in size from sixteen to twenty inches. Guests are often surprised by the abundance and size of trout caught each day. Without a doubt, fishing the Bighorn River is an unforgettable experience.

A typical day of fishing on the Bighorn might include nymphing, streamer fishing or dry fly fishing. As trout adapt to changing water conditions and aquatic insect life, fishing conditions vary. Your guide will work with you to find the approach that fits your experience level and expectations. The lodge prides itself on hiring local, knowledgeable fly fishermen as guides. The guides spend hundreds of days on the river each year and are happy to help guests with all elements of technique. They guide many clients who are casting a fly rod for the first time and also seasoned anglers who have been fly fishing their entire lives. The guides are devoted to their craft and will do everything possible to help you enjoy your time on the water.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT

ACCOMMODATIONS

The main lodge features newly updated Montana-style comfort and decor. The lodge hosts five bedrooms, each equipped with two beds, fine linens and a private bathroom. King size beds are available for couples upon request. A large living room and dining area create a gathering space for guests to mingle, play cards and share fishing tales. The “Little Cabin”, situated across from the lodge, provides a quiet getaway with sleeping quarters for up to four anglers. The cabin houses two bedrooms with a fully functioning kitchen and living room. Guests should expect to dine at the main lodge unless other arrangements are made.

Bighorn River Lodge is proud to offer fine dining prepared by a first class chef. The homemade meals are cooked with the freshest ingredients. A hearty Montana breakfast is served each morning. The lodge provides boat lunches and snacks on the river during your day of fishing. A typical dinner menu might include your choice of whole grilled tri-tip with bacon red wine reduction or mahi mahi with lemon dill cream served with parmesan orzo and grilled vegetables. Sunset appetizers and delectable desserts are sure to entice the most distinguished taste buds.

After a long day of fishing, relax on outdoor patios with friends and a cold beverage. A five acre pond stocked with large-mouth bass, carp and a few trout sits at the center of the property. Guests can enjoy fishing off the dock, paddle-boating, or walking around the premises. If you haven’t had your fill, walk down to a private boat ramp on the river and cast for a few more trout while watching the sun set over the Bighorn Mountains.
