No See Um Lodge

THE FISHING

The fishing program at No See Um is really well thought out and it actually starts with the fantastic location of the lodge, which is optimally located, where access to quality waters are all but guaranteed. No See Um Lodge is a dedicated flyout lodge, with six fly outs per week for each angler. Each daily fly out consists of four anglers and two guides, with more than one angling location per day utilized when conditions warrant it.

Within just a short 30-minute flight from the lodge, anglers can access multiple watersheds for a whole host of species. With 30+ rivers to fish within a 30-minute flight, the choices of where to go each day will be dictated by what you want to fish for. You can fish a new piece of water every day or go back to a favorite, later in the week. The big thing here is the amount of choice that anglers have when fishing from No See Um.

Like many rivers and regions in Southwest Alaksa, the life cycle of the Salmon completely dominates the Kvichak watershed and its fisheries. The salmon life cycle will also dictate when you should be traveling to No See Um Lodge to fish. Each of the Salmon species that come in to the area rivers to spawn, operate on a different timeline from the other salmon species and the lodge has this salmon timing down to almost an exact science. In terms of species to chase, No Seem Um offers an excellent blend of variety and quality. Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char (Dollys), Grayling, Northern Pike and all five varieties of Salmon, (Chum, Pinks, Kings, Sockeye and Silver Salmon can all be fished to at varying points of the summer months.  The Kings will be the first to arrive, usually in mid June, followed by the Sockeye Salmon, then Chums, Pinks (only every other year) and then the Coho’s will arrive in early August.

The lodge is located right on the Kvichak River, which is home to some of the largest Rainbow Trout in the state. The Kvichak Is a large river, by Alaskan standards, with its origins starting in Lake Iliamna and draining out into the ocean, at Kvichak Bay.   The countless tributaries and braids that comprise the Kvichak are truly excellent fisheries and many of these waters are no more than a 15-minute flight from the lodge.

One of the real pluses to fishing out of No See um is the small number of guests per week. With a maximum of 12 anglers at any one time, the lodge is intimate and has an unhurried vibe to it that larger lodges simply can’t offer.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT

No See Um Lodge owns and operates three de Havilland Beaver float planes. This famous bush plane is the backbone of most fishing operations and has become the preferred aircraft for operating in and out of small lakes and rivers. The lodge also operates jets boats.
