South Bight – Bair’s Lodge
THE FISHING
Bair’s Lodge is situated within 120 square miles of inland flats, cays, creeks, large connecting channels known as ‘bights’, and mangrove lagoons, all superlative bonefish habitats. Andros Island boasts the ‘biggest bonefish in the Caribbean’ and 15-pounders have been caught in South Andros. The lodge is beautifully positioned half way between the South Bite and Curly Cut Cays, providing access to some of the most remote and pristine flats that Andros has to offer. We like this operation because it can almost always provide shelter from the elements in terms of finding some areas to get out of the wind if it’s ripping out on the flats. There are many tidal basins and creeks that can be fished, both wading and fishing from the boat will be experienced during your trip. If you are looking for big bonefish, with high standards for accommodations and guiding, then Bairs and South Andros should be high on your list of places to go. The lodge is also equipped with a larger boat for offshore fishing, which tends to be more restricted by the weather and the season. With notice, a day of offshore fishing may be arranged to break up a week of flats fishing. The ‘Tongue of the Ocean’, and the world’s third-largest Barrier Reef, run along Andros.
BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
17’ Rahming Bonefisher skiffs with poling platforms and ‘leanbars’; 85 HP Yamaha Outboards.
