Florida – The Outpost

THE FISHING

The Everglades, Florida: The Everglades is a pristine fishery with an endless maze of tall mangroves, chains of islands, and winding creeks teeming with wildlife. Only navigable by water using specialized shallow water skiffs, this is an enchanting remote wilderness. And the Glades features one of the largest populations of resident tarpon in the country. When those fish emerge from the deep rivers, they swim out like bears waking from hibernation: HUNGRY!

Marquesas, Florida: The Marquesas are legendary. Once a hushed hideaway of in-the-know Florida fisherman, the secret may be out, but the magnetic pull for anglers remains, the chance at the coveted grand slam: tarpon, permit, and bonefish in a single day. Atoll style fishing focuses on the lagoon and the many cuts and channels that feed it, and on the tidal flats that vary from soft to hard sand and billowing grass.

NOLA: An angler’s paradise, the southern Louisiana marsh is the redfish capital of the world, vast and remote, yet only an hour from New Orleans and its famous dining, music and nightlife. Like the expansive West Side of Andros Island, Bahamas, it’s hard to picture the scope of the marsh unless you fly over it. It seems endless; a massive labyrinth of shallow bays, ponds, canals and channels, bayous, larger lakes and mud flats. And these fishing grounds south of Houma can only be accessed by the right shallow water skiffs captained by guides with the proper local knowledge, which means it’s rare to see any other anglers while you’re out enjoying the day.
