THE FISHING
This is the true jungle: you are surrounded by rainforest with the sounds of toucans, macaws, and howler monkeys everywhere. You fish in primal jungle lagoons. For the duration of the fishing trip guests will be in the middle of an Unini [Native Brazilian] reserve. One surprising feature to this trip is that there are not many bugs, the tannin content of the water prohibits much insect breeding. The Lodge seeks out trophy Peacock Bass in obscure, unpopulated [except by fish] watersheds. With its extremely shallow draught, the caravan of barges bases itself about 4-6 hours upstream of the other fishing traffic. The beauty of the floating cabins is that guests will be sleeping right in the midst of the best peacock bass waters, meaning that there are no long boat rides and no time wasted driving to the best fishing locations. Guests are already there! River Plate’s Fly-In Floating Cabins are the perfect fishing tools, providing headwaters access, mobility, comfort and luxury. River Plate selects locations with productive secluded lagoons, hours away on the fastest bass boats from the melee of competing house boats and lodges congregated on the Rio Negro’s main channel water ways.
This unique mobility allows guests to fish in areas above the natural barriers: shallow water, sandbars and rapids that prevent passage of sport fishing yachts and commercial fishing boats. The record-holding Peacock Bass was from this exact area, caught in 1994 weighed in at 27 pounds. There are no expensive daily fly-outs. There are no crowded waters. This is one of the most unique fishing adventures we’ve ever come across and is ideal for guests who are looking for some first rate Peacock Bass fishing in a truly extraordinary environment. BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
The Lodge maintains a fleet of bass-boats, 16’ to 21’, with 40 HP outboards. To get in and out, they have 3 Cessna Turboprop float-planes.
GETTING THERE
Guests will travel to Miami on Thursday for the 8:30 pm flight to Manaus, which takes about 5 hours, arriving in the middle of the night. You will stay overnight in Manaus, in the morning the lodge will arrange the ground transfer for the charter flight out to the Barge, which takes about an hour. You must pack everything you need in a duffel bag, rather than a hard shell suitcase, its weight must not exceed 36 pounds, as the same small plane must carry 8 anglers and all their luggage. You must bring your own fly rods and reels as the lodge does not supply fly gear. Please remember that it all counts in the weigh-in. The lodge does however furnish top-quality spin gear for guest use.

ACCOMMODATIONS
There are two different options available. The ‘Barge Camp’ consists of a linked caravan of 6 barges with very shallow draught [less than 6”], highly maneuverable. This portable fishing-camp can go almost anywhere! Each small cabin-barge is a roomy 10’ by 15’ steel-frame barge, carpeted, screened, insulated, with its own bathroom, these can accommodate 2 anglers. All offer its own kitchen, freezer, fridge, phone, and air-conditioning. 14 staff [guides/crew/chefs] also travel in the caravan. Each of the Floating Cabin operations are managed by a knowledgeable fisherman, experienced in handling the logistics inherent in Amazon fishing operations. Since the groups are small, the staff and bilingual host offer uniquely personalized hands-on attention. Breakfast room service, laundry service and guest satellite phone are a few of the available amenities. The alternative option is an amazing floating hotel, the 76’ Blackwater Explorer, a riverboat with three storeys and 10 double staterooms. The boat features a bar, many bathrooms, and two dining areas. It accommodates 16 anglers, and a crew of 14 to see to the guests every need.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Power on board both vessels is 110 volts, same as in the US and Canada. Our European and Asian guests will need an adaptor for laptops, battery charging etc.
- This is not a good option for non anglers.
- Trips of longer than a week (10-12 days) can be scheduled in advance.
- Trips out to Turneffe can be scheduled as part of the trip but need to be done so well in advance so that sufficient fuel and food is on board prior to guest arrival.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
When coming to Brazil, you must be sure that your passport is valid for at least six months after the date of entry. Check with your local Brazilian embassy or consulate whether or not you require a visa to enter the country.
