Riverview Lodge – South Island

THE FISHING

There are several really strong reasons for choosing to base from the Riverview Lodge for your trip. First off, anglers fishing from Riverview Lodge have access to a huge variety of rivers from which to fish. When you add in helicopter access rivers, the options you have on a daily basis from the Riverview are truly exceptional. Heli Fishing is an integral component to fishing at Riverview and the lodge owners have it beautifully dialed in. Their relationships with the two helicopter companies they work with are very strong and they’ve know all the pilots for a long time.

When fishing from Riverview Lodge, most of the fishing takes place on the eastern side of the Lewis Pass Reserve but there are times when, if the weather is poor on the east side of the pass, that anglers will head west towards the Reefton area if conditions are more favorable over in the west. Having a strong Plan B is a nice option to have in your back pocket if the weather is poor on the east side.

The second great reason for fishing out of Riverview is that the Canterbury area probably produces more 10 pound + Brown Trout than any other region in the country. This is not to say that everyone who fishes from the Riverview will land a trout of this size, but, the reality is that you will very likely get shots at fish this large fish and that’s really all an angler can ask for.

The third reason why the Riverview Lodge is so good from a fishing perspective, is the quality of the rivers you get to fish. The Canterbury area has some truly superb trout water, with an enormous diversity in terms of the rivers and their structure.
