THE FISHING

Camp Isua offers a fly fishing experience that is truly unlike anywhere else in the world. Nestled deep within Greenland’s pristine southern fiords, this remote Char haven provides unparalleled access to untouched rivers, where the fishing pressure is nearly nonexistent. Each season, a maximum of eight anglers per week are welcomed to the camp, ensuring optimal conditions and an intimate connection with nature. The Fiordland of Southern Greenland offers guests the ability to cast a fly into waters that have remained undisturbed for centuries, where anglers can embrace the raw, powerful beauty and solitude that only a place like Camp Isua can provide.

During the course of the week at camp, anglers will fish three distinct river systems. The Isua, the Eqaluit and the Tasiusaq River.

THE ISUA RIVER

The Isua River stretches roughly ten kilometers through a dramatic valley flanked by steep mountains. The river holds only one species — the wild Arctic char — thriving in its cold, crystal-clear currents.

Fishing along the Isua River can require good physical condition, as the terrain can be demanding and, at times, extreme. While there are several fishing spots along the way that are easily accessible, those who venture farther upriver are rewarded with spectacular experiences. The route winds through shrubs, boulders, and uneven ground, testing both endurance and casting skills.

The hike to the famous pool “Steps” begins with a steep one-kilometer climb up a moraine ridge, passing three small saddle-shaped valleys — lush green oases beneath towering cliffs nearly a kilometer high. Waders aren’t needed at first, but further into the valley you’ll need to cross the river to reach the prime pools. The descent from the ridge can be challenging, but a fixed rope provides safe passage. The lower pools near the base often hold good numbers of fish and are ideal for anglers who prefer a shorter hike.

THE Equluit River

Eqaluit is a network of dark, crystal-clear lakes connected by a medium-flowing two-to-three-kilometer river. The water rushes over moss-covered stones, home to large, powerful Arctic char. The dark water mirrors the sky and cliffs, making it difficult to spot the fish beneath the surface. The surrounding terrain is rugged — steep cliffs, fascinating rock formations, and clean, crisp air that humbles every visitor.

We start our journey early in the morning, packing lunch and setting out in the camps Poca 600 boat, through the still waters of the fjord. The one-hour ride westward offers dramatic views — towering cliffs reflecting perfectly in the glassy surface of the water under a vast, untouched sky. Upon arrival, the guides secure the boat to a buoy and then pull fishermen ashore using a line. From there, a short 50 meter climb awaits over rocky terrain. At the top, an incredible view opens up — sharp peaks, open blue skies, and cliffs rising straight from the landscape. Anglers then descend toward the river, where everyone can participate regardless of fitness level. Following reindeer tracks, guests will then reach the deep pools hidden within this extraordinary wilderness.

THE TASIUSAQ River

Deep within Greenland’s mountain wilderness lies Tasiusaq, a place of raw, untouched beauty. Here, turquoise glacial lakes meet fast-flowing rivers, surrounded by silent peaks shaped by ice and time. The Tasiusaq River is short, only about 500 meters, but it holds a unique and stunning character. Flowing through a narrow valley beneath towering cliffs and a waterfall, the river forms natural fish ladders leading to a crystal-blue lake where Arctic char spawn in winter. Another small stream branches off from the lake into the lower section, a place yet to be fully explored, offering the chance to fish untouched waters. When traveling to Tasiusaq, anglers will again travel aboard the Poca 600 boat, to navigate a narrow fjord with bright blue water and steep mountainsides. Guests will often stop in a shallow bay to fish for cod on the fly for dinner before continuing ashore. A short hike through the rugged landscape brings anglers to the river, clear, cold, and full of life.

In Tasiusaq, everything remains as nature intended — pure, authentic, and untouched. Fly fishing here isn’t just about catching fish; it’s about connecting with Greenland’s wild soul — surrounded by silence, mountains, and the clearest water.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT

This is strictly a walk and wade destination. A Poca 600 boat is used to transfer anglers to both the Equluit and Tasiusaq Rivers.

GETTING THERE

Upon your arrival in Nuuk, the Camp Isua team will greet you and take you directly to a local hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the next part of the journey south. The following morning guests will then travel by boat to Grædefjorden in a spacious vessel with plenty of room for both anglers and your luggage. As guests sail south along Greenland’s west coast, you’ll witness some absolutely breathtaking scenery — towering mountains, vast fjords, and the river mouths of the three systems you’ll soon be fishing in. Upon arrival at camp, guests will be transferred to shore, using a small rubber boat. From there, it’s a short 300-400-meter walk up to the camp.
