Country Information

The Seychelles are a series of extraordinary islands and atolls located in the Indian Ocean, off the south eastern coast of Africa. Situated roughly 8000 Km from Europe, the Seychelles archipelago consists of 115 islands scattered over an area of 400,000 square km, between 4-10 degrees south of the equator. The Seychelles has a population of approximately 85,000 with the majority of people living on the three main islands of Mahe, which is the capital, Praslin and La Digue.

There are two categories of islands within the Seychelles: the granite “inner” that cluster around the principal islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue, whose spectacular peaks climb skyward from virgin forests and immaculate beaches, and the “outer”: a stunning array of flat, coralline islands extending westward towards the coast of Africa that includes the Alphonse and St. Francois Atolls as well as the legendary Aldabra group of atolls. The Aldabra group consists of Assumption, Astove, Aldabra and Cosmoledo. Alphonse is 500 miles south west of Mahe while the Aldabra group of atolls are approximately 800 miles southwest of Mahe.

The Seychelles has more natural and marine parks than anywhere else in the world and fully 46% of its above water land mass has been designated with National Park status. Long considered one of the most pristine environments on the planet, it is only recently that the Seychelles has garnered attention as a saltwater fishing Mecca for those with the gumption and resources to make the trip.

The sheer beauty of the country combined with unparalled flats fishing, virtually all of which is wadable, means that the Seychelles is guaranteed to deliver on its promise to deliver a “trip of a lifetime”. Huge bonefish (consistently the largest in the world) permit, giant trevally, milkfish and enormous barracudas are all found in excellent numbers on the flats in the Seychelles. For many anglers, this destination represents the pinnacle of destination saltwater fly fishing trips.

Our two main areas of angling focus at Slip Stream Angling are Alphonse Island and the extremely remote Farquhar and Aldabra Groups.

For guests who can come in early or stay a few days on the back end of their fishing trip, we have extensive knowledge of the country and have created customized itineraries for clients that include a couple of days of golf, deep sea fishing for marlin as well as diver certification programs.
