I am heading back to Northern Italy in late September of 2025 for another marvelous eight nights of gastronomic delights, along with six days of guided fishing. This trip offers a nice variety of trout species in a spectacular mountain setting. If you enjoy great food and wine in a truly beautiful environment, then this trip is right up your alley.Â
We start out with three nights and two days of guided fishing up in the Gran Paradiso National Park, while basing out of the gorgeous alpine village of Cogne. Nice pocket water, some big fish up to six pounds and a good amount of site casting dry flies will be the hallmark of this part of the trip. We then move over to Piedmont for five nights, where we’ll fish a variety of rivers the Sesia Valley for four days. During our stay in Piedmont, we’ll be based in a very small and rural community that few tourists venture into and it’s a part of Italy that is hard not to fall in love with. The fishing in this part of the country offers a good amount of site fishing to specific fish in gin clear rivers, with the guides going to dry flies first, in most situations. Rainbow and Brown Trout, Marble Trout and Grayling can all be targeted while fishing the Piedmont part of the trip.Â
While this is a fishing trip, the food and wine side of the eight nights are extremely important and there are few places that offer a better overall culinary experience. The combination of great food and wine with very good dry fly fishing is tough to beat.Â

PAST TRIP – SLOVENIA TROUT AND GASTRONOMIC EXTRAVAGANZA
SLOVENIA TROUT AND GASTRONOMIC EXTRAVAGANZA – We have a couple of angling slots available for this terrific hosted trip to the stunning country of Slovenia, in the fall of 2022. The two angling slots available have been set up where each guest will have their own room for the duration of the trip, while sharing a guide with another angler in the party. The price of the private room is included in the cost of this trip I’ve designed this trip to follow the same itinerary and locations as those featured in the Garden and Gun article on fly fishing Slovenia, that I hosted in September of 2019.
This is a superb trip that has been put together to highlight the very best of trout fishing in this picturesque and little-known mountain-oriented nation. Guests will spend four days in northwestern Slovenia, fishing for Rainbow and Marble Trout, before moving east to the lovely lakeside town of Bled, where we will fish for 3 days of Rainbow Trout and Grayling.
