LOCATION
Bair’s Lodge is located on South Andros Island, in the Bahamas. This is the least developed of the ‘Family Island’ group. It is 30 miles west of Nassau, the Bahamian capital, and 175 miles south-east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Florida Keys are about 150 miles to the north.

PRIMARY SPECIES
Bonefish: also barracuda, tarpon, permit, jacks, snook, and snappers. Bair’s Lodge has an offshore program that can be integrated into your week of flats fishing. Offshore species include marlin, wahoo, tuna, sailfish, and dorado.

SEASON OF OPERATION
The lodge operates from mid October to early June. The low season is Oct. 21 to Feb. 28, and the high season March 1 to May 31.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE LOGISTICS
Any length of stay may be arranged. For the traditional week-long stay, Saturday and Wednesday tend to be the turn-around days. There is usually no organized fishing on arrival or departure days.

ACCOMMODATIONS
The Lodge is a spacious, elegant Plantation-style building 65 feet from the ocean, surrounded by tropical flowers and palm trees, and very near the moorings. It has 7 guest rooms with en-suite bathroom. A complete fly-tying bench is available, and the well-stocked fly shop has many rods, reels, lines, fishing wear, and flies [and loaner rods], but no lures. There is a beautiful patio, and a fire-pit on the beach. There is Satellite TV, full air-conditioning, telephone, and internet available. A typical day includes a 7 am breakfast, fishing from 8 am to 4 pm, cocktails and appetizers at 5, and dinner [usually seafood] at 7.

DESTINATION CAPACITY
Angling capacity at Bair’s is 12 rods per week.

THE FISHING
Bair’s Lodge is situated within 120 square miles of inland flats, cays, creeks, large connecting channels known as ‘bights’, and mangrove lagoons, all superlative bonefish habitats. Andros Island boasts the ‘biggest bonefish in the Caribbean’ and 15-pounders have been caught in South Andros. The lodge is beautifully positioned half way between the South Bite and Curly Cut Cays, providing access to some of the most remote and pristine flats that Andros has to offer. We like this operation because it can almost always provide shelter from the elements in terms of finding some areas to get out of the wind if it’s ripping out on the flats. There are many tidal basins and creeks that can be fished, both wading and fishing from the boat will be experienced during your trip. If you are looking for big bonefish, with high standards for accommodations and guiding, then Bairs and South Andros should be high on your list of places to go. The lodge is also equipped with a larger boat for offshore fishing, which tends to be more restricted by the weather and the season. With notice, a day of offshore fishing may be arranged to break up a week of flats fishing. The ‘Tongue of the Ocean’, and the world’s third-largest Barrier Reef, run along Andros.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
17’ Rahming Bonefisher skiffs with poling platforms and ‘leanbars’; 85 HP Yamaha Outboards.
