THE FISHING
Alaska Northern pike wait to ambush their pray while patiently waiting in the back bays and grassy sloughs they call home. Pike are the fastest accelerating fish in the world and come armed with 702 teeth. Alaska Pike weigh an average of 7 pounds and their fierce wake will strike fear in the hearts of most hardened pike fisherman. It’s best to be cautious when fishing for Pike in Alaska, as there are 40” pike lurking in the muddy waters. The Midnight Sun guests also target Sheefish. This fish has a strong bite and is fast moving. Sheefish migrate in schools up river throughout the summer months. These unique fish provide quick and ferocious action for the spin cast, or fly fishing enthusiast.

By far the majority of our guests who travel to the Midnight Sun, are there to target trophy Northern Pike. The location where the Midnight Sun Live Aboard is situated ideal for producing huge pike as the two-hundred mile long Yukon River tributary provides the perfect environment for growing huge Alaskan pike ... cool, slow-moving water; a food source of unlimited quantity; and the time for the pike to grow old and fat - ranging anywhere from 10 pounds to 25 pounds and even the occasional 40 pound monster! These big fish are up to twenty plus years old. With little competition from other anglers, these big pike are readily attainable. Being centrally located between the lower Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers, a short plane ride provides endless opportunities for Alaska’s mighty Northern Pike and Sheefish.

BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
21 aluminum john boats with a generous front and back casting deck and electric trolling motors for silent running in shallow water. The boats are powered by 60 horse HP 2 stroke Yamaha’s.
